Temeka Johnson Announces Retirement From WNBA

(WNBA) Temeka Johnson announced her retirement from playing professional basketball after 13 years via social media Monday. The former LSU star and 2005 WNBA Rookie of the Year wrote “my heart is filled with gratitude” in an Instagram post.

Johnson, a member of the 2009 WNBA championship Phoenix Mercury team, set LSU records as a feisty and wily 5-3 point guard who helped the Tigers reach two Final Fours. Drafted by the Washington Mystics as the sixth overall pick, she went on to record the sixth triple-double in league history in 2014 as a member of the Seattle Storm with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.

The Louisiana native is the author of children’s books and is active in several charitable causes. While with Phoenix she earned the league’s WNBA Community Assist Award.
