Mo’Ne Davis Gets A Taste Of High School Hoops

(Youth Sports) The phenomenal little leaguer Mo’ne Davis has been promoted to her school’s high school varsity basketball team even though she’s still in the eighth grade. Springside Chestnut Hill is a member of the Inter-Academic League, where Davis and other eighth graders can compete on the varsity level. Given that she was available for a spot on the roster, SCHA wasted little time in deciding that Davis was meant for varsity competition and not the lower levels.

“Mo’ne is way too good for middle school basketball,” Tina O’Malley, girls’ athletic director at Springside Chestnut Hill. “For her, it was a no-brainer.”

It hasn’t taken long for Davis to make an impact. As reported by MaxPreps, Davis scored 3 points in her debut during SCHA’s rout of Princeton Day then played much of the game during her team’s first serious threat, a 51-36 victory against Perkiomen.

Given her relatively immediate impact, it should come as little surprise that Davis is already being considered for a starting spot in the days ahead.

“her skill level for the point-guard position is very good at this point,” SCHA head coach Tony Tucker told the Inquirer. “She’s able to penetrate and get to the basket, but at the same time, she can shoot. Her shooting is not as consistent as it will be, but at this point, it’s very good for her age.”
